Privacy policy — FarmOwl

FarmOwl is an AI farm manager that helps you plan farm activities, keep a task calendar, and share it with the people who work on your farm. It is operated by Preetham Murthy, in India. This policy explains what information FarmOwl collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. For questions, write to preetam.murthy@gmail.com.

Information FarmOwl collects

Your Google account basics — your name, email address and profile picture, when you sign in with Google.
Google Calendar access, if you grant it — described in detail below.
Farm information you enter — your farm's name, location (including map coordinates), farming method, activities, tasks, and which tasks are completed and by whom.
Conversations with FarmOwl's assistant — the messages you send and the replies you receive, saved with each activity.
Documents you upload — PDF or Word files you attach as a source for an activity. The whole file is stored with that activity.
Details about you and your team that you choose to enter — for example phone numbers, dates of birth and blood groups in the Team section, and the email addresses of people you invite to your farm. Please only add details about other people with their permission.
Technical information — a cookie that keeps you signed in, and a copy of your farm stored in your browser so it can still be viewed if FarmOwl's server is unreachable. FarmOwl does not use advertising or analytics trackers.

How FarmOwl uses your Google data

FarmOwl asks for permission to use your Google Calendar so your farm tasks appear there and stay in step with the app. With that permission, FarmOwl:

creates a calendar named FarmOwl in your Google account;
adds, updates and deletes events on that calendar for your farm tasks;
reads the events on that calendar, so a task you mark as done there (for example by adding ✅) shows as done in FarmOwl;
reads the list of your calendars only to find the FarmOwl calendar;
shares the FarmOwl calendar with people you invite to your farm, so they can see and update the same tasks.

FarmOwl does not read, change or delete events on any of your other calendars. Google's permission for sharing a calendar with other people only comes bundled with access to all of your calendars, which is why the Google consent screen describes that wider access; FarmOwl only uses it as listed above.

FarmOwl's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular, Google user data is used only to provide the features described here; it is not sold, not used for advertising, not used to develop, improve or train generalised artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models, and is not read by people except with your permission, where needed for security, or to comply with the law.

How your information is used

to store your farm and keep it the same on every device you sign in on;
to generate care protocols, task schedules and advice through FarmOwl's assistant;
to keep your Google Calendar in step with your tasks;
to show local weather for your farm;
to let the people you invite work on your farm with you.

FarmOwl does not sell your information and does not show advertising.

Who else processes your information

FarmOwl relies on these services to run. Each receives only what it needs:

Vercel hosts the app. Its servers for FarmOwl run in Singapore.
Neon stores your farm data in a PostgreSQL database in Singapore.
Google provides sign-in and Google Calendar; the Gemini API, which receives your chat messages, your farm details and the text of any documents you upload in order to write the assistant's replies; Google Maps, for choosing your farm's location; and Google Fonts, for the app's typefaces.
Open-Meteo receives your farm's coordinates to return a weather forecast.

Sharing within your farm

People you invite to your farm (for example a caretaker or agronomist) can see and change its activities, tasks and chats, and FarmOwl records who completed each task. The farm owner can remove their access at any time, which also removes their access to the FarmOwl calendar.

Storage and security

Your information is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Farm data can only be read or changed by signed-in members of that farm; each request is checked against your Google account on the server.

Keeping and deleting your information

FarmOwl keeps your information for as long as you use it. To have your farm and the information in it deleted, email preetam.murthy@gmail.com from the Google account you use with FarmOwl; it will be deleted within 30 days. You can stop FarmOwl's access to your Google account at any time from your Google account's permissions page, and you can delete the FarmOwl calendar in Google Calendar yourself.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information FarmOwl holds about you by writing to preetam.murthy@gmail.com.

Children

FarmOwl is not intended for anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
